This Egyptian stone scarab has a turquoise-coloured surface with pale mottling. Its rounded beetle form has incised lines defining the back, while the flat underside carries recessed markings within an oval border.
In ancient Egypt, the scarab was closely associated with Khepri, the god of the rising sun. The sun’s return each morning made the beetle an enduring symbol of renewal and new life. Scarab-shaped amulets also expressed hopes for protection, giving this familiar form a meaning beyond its decorative appeal.
