Cartouche Trinket Box
The cartouche was an oval frame used to enclose the name of a pharaoh. It symbolized the pharaoh's divine protection and sovereignty, with the oval representing the sun's circuit and the horizontal line at the base signifying the boundary of Egypt.
Beyond pharaohs, cartouches were also used to write the names of important deities in ancient Egyptian religion. The enclosure of a name within the cartouche was believed to provide magical protection.
