Menkaret, also known as Meskhenet, was an important goddess in ancient Egyptian mythology, associated with childbirth and fate. She played a crucial role in the birth process, as she was believed to be responsible for creating the Ka - a part of the human soul - which she would breathe into each newborn child at the moment of birth.
Beyond her association with childbirth, Menkaret was also connected to the concept of fate and destiny. In the Westcar Papyrus, she appears after the births of the first three kings of the Fifth Dynasty to prophesy their future as rulers of Egypt. This highlights her important role in determining the destinies of both commoners and royalty.
