Ma'at is the Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, harmony, balance, and order. She was present from the beginning of creation and her spirit of harmony and balance infused the world. Ma'at was the model for human behavior and played a vital role in the mortuary rituals of Egypt, where her feather of truth would be weighed against the hearts of the deceased in the afterlife. She was also crucial to the success of the king's rule and was the underlying cosmic principle which made the universe operate according to purpose.
