This beautiful statue depicts Hor, an ancient Egyptian vizier who served during the 22nd Dynasty. His kilt has been carefully inscribed with details of his life including his titles and those of his father, who was a priest of Libyan origin. In addition to his titles, the inscription also recounts the pharaoh's appointment of Hor as vizier while he was still serving as a treasurer at the Temple of Amun.
As the highest-ranking official under the pharaoh, the vizier oversaw the administration of the government. Rather than being an advisory role, the vizier acted as the administrative head of the government who would manage the day-to-day operations of the government on behalf of the pharaoh. Viziers had to be highly educated and skilled in various fields like accounting, law, architecture, history, and religion to carry out their wide-ranging responsibilities.
